Professional Appliance Repair and Services: Tips for Cleaning Home Appliances

Cleaning is a vital part of taking care of your appliances. Doing so can prolong their lifespan significantly. If you plan to do appliance cleaning on your refrigerator, microwave, and washer, here are a few tips to help you.

Refrigerator

The refrigerator is used to store food, so it is necessary to keep it clean all the time. The good news is that doing that is as easy as 1-2-3. Just follow these steps:

  1. Take out all the contents of your refrigerator. And then, remove all the shelves and drawers and wash them separately.
  2. Wipe the fridge’s interior with a piece of cloth before returning the shelves and drawers, along with the food items.
  3. You may want to place a chunk of activated charcoal inside because it can effectively deodorize the fridge.

Make a habit of cleaning your fridge often. Be sure to check whether there are rotten food items inside or any liquids spillage. Doing so prevents it from smelling bad.

Microwave

No matter how clean your microwave is, it will instantly get dirty if what you are heating splatters inside. The food particles will soon become a breeding ground for bacteria. Follow these steps to prevent that from happening:

  1. Open the door, and wipe the interior with a piece of cloth.
  2. Make a mixture of water and lemon juice in a cup, and place it inside the appliance. Turn the microwave on for five to ten minutes.
  3. Wait for another five to ten minutes before removing the cup. Afterward, wipe the inside of the microwave again with a dry piece of cloth.

This appliance cleaning hack works effectively because lemon juice contains citric acid. It is a natural chemical that can eliminate bacteria and prevent mold buildup.

Washing Machine

A buildup of molds and grime usually causes a dirty and musty washing machine. In some cases, the clothes you put inside to wash will end up absorbing the foul odor instead. So, it is necessary to clean the machine by following these steps:

  1. Fill the drum with hot water using your washer’s settings.
  2. Mix a few cups of chlorine bleach with the hot water, and then let the machine run a full cycle to drain all the liquid inside.
  3. Fill the drum with water again, and then let it run another cycle. This rinses out the excess bleach that may have been left in the first cycle.

Following these three simple steps is already an effective sanitation method for a washing machine. If the foul smell remains, try substituting bleach with distilled vinegar or lemon juice. Or better yet, request professional cleaning services.
